The memorial that's in the image. It's the National War Memorial in Ottawa. They started building it in 1926 and, in 2000, they brought over the remains of an unknown soldier from Vimy. He was buried at the foot of the memorial and during the summer has an honour guard who watches over him during the day. I'd forgotten that the memorial was as old as it is, and was shocked when I saw the date of the paper. I love the things you can find in the walls and floors of older homes.

ah. a fellow cannuck! i have personally had the honor of being an honor guard posted to a corner of that particular memorial for a 24hour post on rememberance day. it is quite spectacular! as is the one at Vimy. petawawa was home for a good long stretch. (that is the reason i posted that particular photo). small world.
